about

FDIBNAC 2-10 was conceived as not only a tribute to Capitol's Record Reader series, but as a sort of Cliff Notes to Part 1, as well. The video, a "magic book" with Linda Tatro Dobbins' illustrations, make the debt to children's records, particularly "Bozo Under the Sea", the very first record I can recall hearing, a bit more explicit. By the way, Bozo the Clown was originally created by Alan W. Livingston for a children's storytelling record album and illustrated read-along book set and portrayed by Pinto Colvig. The character became very popular during the the 1940s and was a mascot for Capitol Records. The beloved clown's adventure to the bottom of the ocean was recorded in 1948 and is a testimony to the kind of lavish productions Capitol Records was putting out during the Golden Age.

"Steam powered fantasia with a touch of the wild, wild west and one of a kind mechanical instruments. If Melies had been a songwriter instead of film director, his music would probably have sounded something like this."
