8. Gone to Face the End Alone Like An Elephant
Come on my wayward waif
Five dollars you're a punk
Someone blow this place skyhigh
It's filled with jerks and drunks
And I'm the living proof of it
A prophet, I haven't a clue
I'm waiting for the world to end
I'm just another you

The bravest kid who ever lived
A headline with a heart
The sweetest girl in the whole wide wrld
And here's the funny part
I'm stuck with two and two again
I don't know where to start
There's twenty kindergarten children outside
To sing for you

I'll be there at the end sailor
I'll be there waving goodbye
She's riding painted clouds up to
the angels in the sky
I'll walk right out the window
Ours is but to do or die
I've gone to face the end alone
Like an elephant
On a pile of bones
Outside the church
I'll Godbless everyone
Climb down off my perch and sing
Danny Boy when I'm done
Walk you through the ruins
And throw all my old shoes
I'm waiting for the world to end
I'm just another you

Spoken: I hang a sharp left onto Shotwell and he gets thrown to one side of the cab.
I hear some heavy bottles clink and the glug of some heavy liquid.
I think I smell something pungent and sweet.
The guy curses under his breath and then tells me to stop, that this is the apartment.
He points to a nondescript 3 storey stucco 1920s apartment building.
Tells me to go ahead and drive him up to the third floor.
I tell him that I'm getting a little fed up with his antics and that he better show me some cash.
He reaches into a Nike bag and produces fistfuls of bills.
Fistfuls, I'm telling you.
I see a lot of prett
I put the cab into low and drive him up two the flights of stairs.
Rather than knock on his girlfriend's door, he tells me to honk.
I give it a toot and the door opens.
A young woman in a taffeta gown and tiara, sees us, looks up and down the hall, then
waves us in.
I park between the kitchenette and the living room.
I immediately notice the mounted mooseheads on the walls and the 55 gal. drums of maple syrup.
I figure the guy's legit so I get out of the cab and start listening to his plan.
Half hour into his spiel, I'm spellbound.
Then he points at me and tells me that I'm integral to his success.
INTEGRAL.
Wants me to be the commander of his elite Taxicab Phalanx.
I am flattered and I humbly accept the position.
I call my wife and tell her not to wait up.
She takes it well.
So, I'm
drinking Labatts and watching hockey matches.
Somewhere in the Mission.
